Occupational Safety and Health Policy

Twean Construction Company Ltd is committed to providing a safe and healthy working environment to safeguard the well-being of the employees, clients, visitors, and even members of the general public on Company Premises and to the continuous improvement of Company Health and Safety at work performance.

Our Specific Objectives are to:-

  • Safeguard the well-being of our employees, clients, visitors, neighbors, and even members of the general public on Company Premises.
  • Prevent Occupational injuries and illnesses and promote good health.
  • Prevent property damage and business interruptions.
  • Continually improve the Company’s overall Health and Safety at work performance.

To achieve these objectives we will:-

  1. Identify and evaluate the health and safety at work risks associated with our operations and seek to eliminate or control them.
  2. Ensure compliance with applicable local legislation and Twean Construction Company Ltd health and safety standards.
  3. Establish health and safety at work management systems within each of our workshops and sites, and ensure full compliance through regular internal auditing.
  4. Set targets for continuous improvement and resource, and implement health and safety at work management programs that address our significant health and safety at work risks.
  5. Investigate all incidents at work that have or could have resulted in serious personal injury, ill health, and/or accidental loss and take action to prevent recurrence.
  6. Use information, education, and training programs to ensure that our employees and suppliers are aware of their roles and responsibilities, have good health and safety at work awareness, and have the appropriate skills and competencies.
  7. Work with suppliers, sub-contractors, clients, and other stakeholders to achieve health and safety at work improvements.
  8. Maintain a communication strategy that ensures that we provide whatever information and advice concerning the health and safety at work risks associated with our operations and services that include a commitment to making this policy publicly available.
  9. Work with relevant bodies, including government agencies, business partners, local communities, employees’ representatives, and other concerned organizations, to promote health and safety at work standards, increase knowledge, and disseminate best practices.
  10. Remain alert and responsive to developing health and safety issues, knowledge, and public concerns.
  11. Ensure personal and visible commitment and involvement of every person in the workplace. Managers at all levels will be held accountable for the performance of Occupational Health and Safety of their staff and other persons under their control while all employees are expected to work safely.
  12. Review this policy annually and where necessary revise it to take account of changing conditions.

Drugs and Alcohol Policy

Twean Construction Company Ltd is fully committed to maintaining the highest standards on all issues relating to the Health and Safety of its employees, subcontractors, clients, visitors, and members of the general public who might be affected by its operations and activities. In particular, Twean Construction Company Ltd recognizes that misuse of drugs and alcohol poses a direct and significant threat to this goal and is thus committed to ensuring a working environment that is free of this risk.

Our Specific Objectives with regard to drugs and alcohol are to:-

  • Have a working environment that is free of risks arising from misuse of drugs and alcohol.
  • Prevent drugs and alcohol related injuries/illnesses.
  • Continually promote safe use of drugs and alcohol.

To achieve these we will:-

  • Establish and implement the Drugs and Alcohol Use Code of Conduct and related procedures.
  • Comply with all applicable local legislation including exercising the company`s legal and statutory responsibilities towards the employees, subcontractors, and the public.
  • Screen for drugs and alcohol where there are grounds for suspicion and routinely as part of pre-employment screening.
  • Provide counseling for any employee who has a drug and alcohol addiction problem, provided that he/she has not violated this policy or the associated code of conduct.
  • Take firm action against any employee(s) and/or subcontractor(s) who inconsiderately compromise his/her safety, the safety of others, the company’s reputation, or allow work performance to suffer as a result of taking alcohol, drugs, or any other intoxicant. We will however take a caring approach towards those in genuine need of help.
  • Use information, education and training programmes to ensure that our employees and subcontractor(s) are aware of their roles and responsibilities as pertains safe use of drugs and alcohol and adhere to the Drug and Alcohol Use Code of Conduct.
  • Monitor compliance with the Drug and Alcohol Use Code of Conduct and take appropriate action to remedy major and/or recurring issues of non-compliance.
  • Induce a sustainable behavior change in order to embed an organizational culture that ensures safe use of drugs and alcohol.
  • Work with subcontractor(s) and other stakeholders to achieve improvements in the area of safe use of drugs and alcohol.
  • Remain alert and responsive to any developing drugs and alcohol misuse issues.

Transport Policy

Twean Construction Company Ltd is fully committed to ensuring the safety of its employees, subcontractors, clients, visitors, and members of the general public who might be affected by its transport activities and to the continuous improvement of the company’s transport safety performance.

Our Specific Objectives are to:-

  • Safeguard the well-being of our employees, subcontractors, clients, visitors, neighbors and members of general public who might be affected by our transport activities.
  • Prevent transport related injuries and damage to property.
  • Continually improve transport safety performance.

To Achieve these we will:-

  • Identify and evaluate safety risks associated with our transport operations and seek to either eliminate or control them.
  • Comply with all applicable local legislation.
  • Comply with Twean Construction Company Ltd specific standards on safe travel in vehicles, plants and motorcycles.
  • Establish and implement Company Safe Travel Operating Guidelines/Regulations consistent with the Twean Construction Company Ltd standards on safe travel in vehicles and motorcycles.
  • Monitor compliance with the Company Safe Travel Operating Guidelines and take appropriate action to remedy major and/or recurring issues of non-compliance.
  • Investigate all transport related incidents that have or could have resulted in serious personal injury and damage to property and take action to prevent recurrence.
  • Set annual transport safety improvement targets, implement and resource management programmes for their delivery and regularly monitor their progress.
  • Use information, education and training programmes to ensure that our employees and subcontractors are aware of their safe travel roles and responsibilities, have a good transport safety awareness and the appropriate skills and competencies.
  • Induce a sustainable behavior change in order to embed an organizational culture with high priority to transport safety.
  • Work with our suppliers, subcontractors and other stakeholders to achieve transport safety improvements.
  • Collate and communicate good practice in transport safety.
  • Remain alert and responsive to any developing transport safety issues.

Fire Safety Policy

Twean Construction Company Ltd is committed to ensuring that all fire burn hazards atvarious designated workplaces are eliminated. It extends the company obligation in meeting the safety of own employees of working safely and smoothly in order to avoid serious fire burn accidents, which could lead to lost time, injuries and fatality.

The company will observe the following guidelines in ensuring that various operations are carried out in a safe manner:-

  • All fires must be in locations authorized by the workshops and site manager. They must be made either in an enclosed fire-place; brick built permanent fire containers or portable fire tray to company recommended design in order to be protected from contact burns.
  • All workers stationed in chemical stores, fuel and timber stores, engineering workshops, and central stores must not be allowed to make fire.
  • All workshops and the workplace, including site and management offices must be provided with fire extinguishers.
  • Under the supervision of the EHS Manager, the appointed safety officers should sensitize both the management and other company employees (in workshops, yards, and workplace at large) on Fire Safety.
  • Carriage of flammable liquids (i.e. petrol etc.) on motorcycles is prohibited. If absolutely necessary, only the recommended safety cans may be used and only carried in car/vehicle boot, ensuring that they are properly secured.
  • Fires must not be made in situations where it is likely to increase the risk of fire to company property, explosions or flammable stored liquids/gases.

Environment Conservation & Protection Policy

Twean Construction Company Ltd is committed to meeting the needs of clients in an environmentally sound and sustainable manner through continuous improvement in environmental performance in all our activities.

Our Specific Objectives are to:-

  • Ensure that our operations are safe for the environment.
  • Exercise the same concern for the environment wherever we operate.
  • Develop innovative products and processes, which reduce levels of environmental impact.
  • Reduce waste, conserve energy and explore opportunities for re-use and recycling.
  • Preserve primary forests, areas of special scientific interests and habitats important for
  • en-dangered plant and animal species.

To Achieve these we will:-

  • Assess the environmental impacts/aspects of all our business activities. We will use environmental impact assessment methods that are robust and scientifically sound within the present state of knowledge, at the same time attempting to improve on current practice.
  • Comply with the local legislation and Twean Construction Company Ltd standards.
  • Develop and apply systems of environmental management, as part of day-to-day operational practice and ongoing management reporting and control procedures. In particular, we will take practical measures to:-
  • Protect watercourses and the atmosphere from pollution.
  • Conserve energy and use renewable sources wherever practical.
  • Identify, measure and report environmental indicators.
  • Set targets for continuous improvement and resource and implement management programs that address our significant environmental aspects.
  • Investigate all environmental incidents or complaints that have or could have resulted in serious environmental impact and take action to prevent recurrence.
  • Encourage our suppliers and subcontractors to develop environmentally sound processes and cooperate with other members of the supply chain to improve overall environmental performance.
  • Ensure that employees are aware of this policy and motivated to apply it, and are also aware of their roles and responsibilities and given support and training to fulfill them.
  • Protect wildlife and prohibit hunting, capturing, and extracting wildlife within our sites and other workplaces.
  • Disseminate relevant information and advice on the safe use and disposal of our products.
  • Publish relevant and meaningful information on environmental performance.
  • Remain alert and responsive to developing issues and public concerns.
